SUMMARY:Half Acre Cycling's Skyway Classic
DESCRIPTION:HAC Skyway Classic Series \nCalumet Park\, Chicago\, IL \nSaturday\, April 25th – Sunday\, April 26th\, 2025 \nWe are continuing our weekend schedule with multiple opportunities for Cat 3\, 4\, and 5 racing. New this year\, we will be using American Bicycle Racing (ABR) as our sanctioning organization keeping in line with our team values of gender inclusive and affordable racing! \nDon’t fret\, we are not straying too far from our roots. Skyway will still be focused on giving new racers plenty of experience in a safe and positive environment. This year there will be a 1 hour crit clinic prior to kicking off racing so folks can familiarize themselves with the course and have opportunities to engage with experienced racers. \nThis two-day series gives newer racers a low-cost\, low-tech\, nearby opportunity to try out criterium racing and gain valuable experience\, skills\, and confidence on safe roads in a low pressure environment. Also its a great way for seasoned racers to stay extra sharp between early season races. Not to mention\, the fabulous prizes and primes that await! \nRegistration: Online pre-registration is here on BikeReg. Day of Registration will close 15 minutes before each race. (*While the field limit is 65\, pre-registration is capped at 55 per field to allow space for day-of registrants.) There are no Masters or Juniors categories. All racers must be at least racing age 16 years old (your age on 12/31/2026) to race Skyway. \nLicensing:  All riders must have an American Bicycle Racing (ABR) license in order to race.  A one-day license is included in the cost of your registration fees. If you prefer to obtain an annual license for $30\, you can obtain your ABR annual license here. If you have an current annual license\, email us a copy of your ABR annual license confirmation to receive a discount code prior to registration (hello@halfacrecycling.org). If you decide after racing that you would like to pay the difference for an annual license\, we can help you set that up in person at registration. \nRiding multiple fields: Riders can register for multiple races in a day. A discount is applied when pre-registering for multiple races. \nA few words about inclusivity: Half Acre Cycling respects trans and non-binary athletes and their human right to participate in sport. Women’s categories include trans women\, femme\, and non-binary riders. Men’s categories have been renamed “Open” and include cisgender men\, trans men\, non-binary riders\, and anyone else who wants to ride. We believe you are who you say you are. Half Acre Cycling has no space for hate\, hate/exclusive speech\, or any other form of harassment or discrimination at our events\, and will not be tolerated. If you have any concerns or requests on how we can ensure Half Acre Cycling lives up to the promise of inclusive and inviting events\, please find our race director\, Pete Pavek\, on-site or email hello@halfacrecycling.org. \nResults: This is a low-tech training criterium series.  Results will list top finishers (we aim to have 10-deep placings\, but it is not always possible) and all other riders will be scored as the last place to have been scored.  For example\, if we are only able to score 9 deep\, all other riders will take 10th place. \nPrizes: Podiums will be announced after each race. All prizes are donated from our gracious sponsors\, varying from items such as socks\, water bottles\, tires\, etc. No cash is awarded. \nRules: All ABR rules apply.  All riders must wear an approved helmet at all times while on bicycle at the race venue.  No alcohol is allowed in the park.  NO bike shoes allowed in the field house. Change only in the locker rooms not the restrooms. \nDirections: Get your warm-up by riding down!  Follow the Bike Route signs from the Lake Front Path.  Or\, if you must take a car… If you follow online directions you’ll get off the I-90 Skyway at 92nd\, the first exit after/before the toll\, and pay at least $4 each way every day.  Instead\, we recommend: exit the Dan Ryan I-94 at 63rd (exit 58B)\, go east on 63rd\, south on King\, and take South Chicago Ave.  Left on 95th which leads into the park.  Stay right at the T with Crilly. OR better yet\, take Lake Shore Drive and follow along the new 2 mile extension to Ewing which leads straight to the park! You can park along Crilly before the Ave G stop sign. \nRacing will be the loop following S Ave G south\, left turn onto E 100th Dr\, continuing left onto Crilly Dr\, then left back to Ave G. \nWeather considerations: Events will be starting rain or shine. \nWhere does the money go?  Half Acre Cycling believes that racing should be affordable and we have worked hard to make this series the least expensive racing in the region. Still\, we know it’s not cheap. Our main costs include permitting fees (City of Chicago\, Chicago Parks District\, and ABR)\, ABR license and insurance fees\, paying our officials\, and paying our paramedic. A key reason this series is so affordable is because we’ve chosen not to pay for cash payouts or prizes and our volunteers are absorbing most of the work. If you would like to help out\, please let us know. Or\, if your club is interested in hosting a more affordable\, accessible event\, we’d be happy to share with you how we’ve done this. \nSpecial note regarding non-binary categories: We understand that the lack of dedicated non-binary categories is an issue across the cycling community. We welcome non-binary racers at this event in the gender field that feels more appropriate to you\, Open or Women. BikeReg allows you to self-select gender\, and we will not question your ABR license gender since they do not allow for non-binary gender in their licensing process. Once again\, you are who you say you are. \nSPECIAL THANKS to Chicago Parks District\, 10th Ward Alderman Peter Chico\, District 4 police\, American Bicycle Racing\, and our sponsors … AND TO ALL YOU RACERS WHO COME THROW DOWN EVERY DAY!

SUMMARY:2026 MATTS Rock River MultiSport Cherry Valley 20K time trial
DESCRIPTION:Race Flyer \nThe Rock River Multisport 20k Road TT (Time Trial)\, sponsored and hosted by Rock River Multisport under the Wisconsin-Illinois Cycling Association (WIIL Cycle)\, brings a thrilling solo race to Deer Run Forest Preserve in Cherry Valley\, IL (5691 River Rd\, Cherry Valley\, IL 61016). This American Bike Racing (ABR)-sanctioned event starts at 8:00 AM CDT\, with riders launching every 30 seconds as part of the Mid America Time Trial Series (MATTS). Spanning 20 kilometers (12.4 miles)\, this flat\, fast course welcomes all levels—juniors\, masters\, and open categories—offering an early-season test of speed and endurance. Rock River Multisport\, a Stateline-area club rooted in endurance sports\, delivers a grassroots experience with medals for the top 5 per category and $30 cash prizes for the fastest overall\, women\, and juniors. Register at wiilcycle.org/register for $30 (adults) or $15 (juniors 18 & under)—on-site adds $10\, opening at 6:30 AM. Post-race\, enjoy snacks and community vibes at the preserve\, a standout in Illinois cycling events. \nThe course is a swift out-and-back\, starting at Deer Run’s main parking lot off River Road. Riders head east along River Rd\, tracing the Kishwaukee River’s south branch\, then turn south onto rural pavement (likely Blackhawk Rd or a similar stretch)\, hitting a 10 km turnaround before racing back. It’s nearly flat (<50 ft elevation)\, with smooth asphalt through 675.6 acres of restored prairie and floodplain forest—ideal for 25-30 mph efforts. Open fields and river views frame this Illinois TT\, though traffic remains active—ride right\, use a rear red blinker (highly recommended)\, and follow marshals at crossings. Past Strava times from Cherry Valley TTs hover around 28-30 minutes—bring your power to this Midwest classic. \nRock River Multisport 20k Road TT Weather\nLate April weather in Cherry Valley offers cool\, variable conditions\, with morning temperatures ranging from 45-55°F at the 8:00 AM start—layer up for comfort. Humidity averages 60-70%\, keeping it crisp yet manageable—bring a light bottle for hydration. Winds blow at 10-15 mph\, often from the northwest or west\, providing a tailwind one way and headwind the other—pace wisely. There’s a 40-50% chance of light rain or drizzle\, typical for spring\, so check forecasts closer to race day for tire and clothing tweaks. \nTravel Directions\n\nFrom Milwaukee\, WI (60 miles southwest): Take I-94 W south ~40 miles to I-43 S\, exit at WI-120 S (Exit 36)\, go south 10 miles to IL-173 W\, turn right\, follow 8 miles to IL-2 S\, then left onto River Rd to 5691 River Rd (1-1.25 hr drive).\nFrom Kenosha\, WI (40 miles west): Head west on WI-50 W ~25 miles\, merge onto IL-173 W via US-12\, go 10 miles to IL-2 S\, turn left onto River Rd to 5691 River Rd (50-60 min drive).\nFrom Madison\, WI (85 miles southeast): Drive east on I-90 E ~65 miles\, exit at IL-23 S (Exit 36)\, go south 15 miles to IL-173 E\, turn left\, follow 5 miles to IL-2 S\, then left onto River Rd to 5691 River Rd (1.5-1.75 hr drive).\nFrom Chicago\, IL (70 miles northwest): Take I-90 W ~60 miles\, exit at IL-173 W (Exit 8)\, head west 8 miles to IL-2 S\, turn left onto River Rd to 5691 River Rd (1.25-1.5 hr drive).\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:SKR Shaw Crank Redemption 20k Gravel TT
DESCRIPTION:The Shaw Crank Redemption 20k Gravel TT (Time Trial) is an exhilarating cycling event sponsored by Stray Kats Racing as part of the Mid-America Time Trial Series (MATTS). Held in the rugged terrain of Manteno\, Illinois\, this race challenges riders with a 20-kilometer (12.4-mile) out-and-back course that blends gravel and pavement\, offering a unique test of speed\, skill\, and adaptability. Cyclists start at one-minute intervals\, racing solo against the clock on a route that demands precision and endurance\, with no drafting permitted to ensure a true individual effort. Open to a wide range of participants\, the event features categories for juniors\, adults\, masters\, recumbents\, tandems\, and hand-cyclists\, with riders choosing between time trial bikes or standard road bikes—the latter limited to non-aero setups without tri-bars or disc wheels. Points earned contribute to the MATTS season standings\, providing a competitive edge for series contenders. SUMMARY:L'Alpe Bl'Huez Hill Climb 10M TT
DESCRIPTION:Race Flyer \nL’Alpe Bl’Huez 10 mile Hill Climb Time Trial is sponsored by MadCity Velo Club and hosted by the Wisconsin-Illinois Cycling Association (WIIL Cycle). The American Bicycle Racing (ABR) is part of the Mid America Time Trial Series (MATTS) although OPEN categories are available for WISport members and Recreational Athletes. Starting in the southwest corner of the Village of Blue Mounds it finishes near the top of Blue Mound State Park. \nCheck out our article on how to prepare for the L’Alpe Bl’Huez Hill Climb. \nPick-up numbers at the top of Blue Mound State Park starting at 8am. First rider off at 9am with time trialers released every minute on the minute. Starting line is at the intersection of Cty. ID and Mounds Road in the Village. Register at BikeReg for $30 or $15 for juniors. ABR provides insurance so a yearly ABR license or a one-day ABR license for $5 covers the insurance. Parking at the Blue Mound State Park is $5 unless the participant has a Wisconsin State Park sticker. \nThe first 3 miles roll west along Cty. ID\, the next 3.6 miles heads north on Cty. K. After a short uphill section K takes a steep downhill then flattens just before turning right for the final 3.4 miles up Mounds Park Road. Mounds Park Road mimics an Alpine ascent for a gain of almost 1000 feet. The last section into the park is the most exciting (steepest) but at this point the finish is near. Experience this small slice of the Tour de France race. Install your climbing gears to handle the 10%\, 12% and 14% grades. \nEnjoy Wisconsin’s Driftless Region of rolling farmland and forest. Undisturbed by glaciation and capped by a layer of hard\, chert rock\, Blue Mound looks out over much of southwestern Wisconsin. Enjoy the two observation towers at both ends of the park. \nThe course is open to traffic\, safety is key-ride right and highly recommended that you use a red blinker. Times in the past ranged from low 30 minutes to high 40s. Test your legs on this challenging course. Medals available in all categories with the fastest man and woman receiving a unique trophy. \nAfterwards eat at The Opera House in Blue Mounds and visit the famous Cave of the Mounds. You may be interested in the Trolls\, the Driftless Museum and the Grumpy Troll Brewery in nearby Mount Horeb. \nL’Alpe Bl’Huez Hill Climb 20k TT Weather\nMid-June weather in Blue Mound brings mild\, pleasant conditions\, with morning temperatures ranging from 65-75°F at the 8:00 AM start—ideal for climbing but warming later. Humidity averages 65-75%\, adding slight stickiness—bring a bottle or two for hydration as sweat builds on the ascent. Winds blow at 8-12 mph\, often from the south or southeast\, aiding flat sections but challenging uphill—pace to leverage tailwinds early. There’s a 25-35% chance of light showers\, though mid-June mornings are typically dry—check forecasts closer to race day for tire and clothing adjustments. \nTravel Directions\n\nFrom Milwaukee\, WI (100 miles southwest): Take I-94 W ~80 miles to I-90 W\, exit at WI-18 W/WI-151 S (Exit 261)\, go south 15 miles to US-18 W\, follow 5 miles to County Hwy F\, turn left to 3022 County Hwy F (1.75-2 hr drive).\nFrom Kenosha\, WI (90 miles west): Head west on WI-50 W ~40 miles to I-94 W\, take I-90 W 40 miles to WI-18 W/WI-151 S (Exit 261)\, go south 15 miles to US-18 W\, follow 5 miles to County Hwy F\, turn left to 3022 County Hwy F (1.5-1.75 hr drive).\nFrom Madison\, WI (25 miles northeast): Drive west on US-18 W/US-151 S ~20 miles to County Hwy F in Blue Mounds\, turn left to 3022 County Hwy F (30-40 min drive).\nFrom Chicago\, IL (150 miles northwest): Take I-90 W ~130 miles to WI-18 W/WI-151 S (Exit 261)\, go south 15 miles to US-18 W\, follow 5 miles to County Hwy F\, turn left to 3022 County Hwy F (2.5-2.75 hr drive).\n\nRegister
