ABD Memorial Day Weekend Omnium
The ABD Memorial Day Weekend Omnium is a thrilling 3-race series held over Memorial Day Weekend in the western suburbs of Chicago, hosted by the Wisconsin-Illinois Cycling Association and sanctioned by American Bicycle Racing (ABR). This competitive omnium features two dynamic criteriums and one challenging time trial, offering a diverse test of speed, endurance, and strategy for cyclists of all levels. Stage 1 kicks off with a criterium at Oakwood Commerce Center (780 Aec Dr, Wood Dale, IL 60191) on the North Course, featuring a technical circuit perfect for high-speed racing. Categories include Men’s Masters 60+, Women’s 50+, Juniors, Men’s and Women’s Cat 4/5, Men’s 50+, Women’s Cat 1/2/3, Men’s Cat 1/2/3, and ParaCyclists (hand-cycles, tricycles, upright, tandem), with races ranging from 35 to 60 minutes and medals awarded 5 deep in most categories. Stage 2 shifts to Kane County for a 10-mile time trial at Sycamore Speedway (50W086 Old State Rd, Maple Park, IL), a flat, fast, dipper-shaped course where the first rider starts at 9:00 AM. The time trial awards prizes to the top 3 men and women, with categories mirroring the criteriums, and contributes to Mid America Time Trial Series (MATTS) points. Stage 3 returns to Oakwood Commerce Center on the South Course for another criterium, following the same category lineup as Stage 1, with Tour of Wisconsin/Illinois (ToIL/WI) and Rider of the Year (ROTY) points awarded across both criteriums. Entry fees range from $25 for Juniors to $40 for Cat 1/2/3 and Men 30-59, with a $15 discount for a second race in the same event and a $10 surcharge for day-of registration. Organized by Athletes By Design (ABD), this omnium combines top-tier competition with a welcoming atmosphere, making it a must-race event for those chasing podiums, points, or their first competitive experience in criterium racing and time trial challenges!
