Zwift Indoor Races

So we had 3 races this winter on Zwift, attended by several of the MATTS racers and a few new faces. We tried to make the races as close as we categorize them outside, but the biggest difference is that Zwift doesn’t do age group racing. We can “simulate” the ability categories by mapping our Cat 1/2,3,4/5 to Zwift’s A,B,C,D levels. We can also “simulate” the Road Bike vs TT bike easily and we did this by having A and B pens. Though one can race with a disc wheel on a Road Bike in Zwift, whereas we don’t allow that outdoors.

Also racing twice isn’t that straightforward, we would need to setup 2 races per day and guesstimate they would be about an hour apart?

One thing I did though was take the results from our races and do a “what if” scenario with using each person’s race standings and putting them into their “known” age groups. When I said “known”, it was gathered if they raced a MATTS race last year (so maybe they’ll age up this year) or their age was available in the Zwift Companion App.

You can see our “results” here. Special shout out to Paul Hughes, Jeff Bird and Gary Rulo who raced all 3 events!
